VicOne, Delta team up for EV charging infrastructure cybersecurity
VicOne, an automotive cybersecurity solution provider wholly owned by Trend Micro, has partnered with Delta Electronics to secure EV charging infrastructure, which will help the latter's customers and EV charging customers to strengthen security efforts and comply with international standards, according to the companies.
The US and EU have released plans to include EV charging grids in their national infrastructure development, and the UK has also required operators of charging piles to meet safety regulations. A charging pile itself has the functions of energy distribution, remote monitoring and billing, and its information security loopholes may become an entry point for cybercriminals, the companies said.
Under the partnership, VicOne's intrusion detection and protection system (IDPS) will be incorporated into Delta's EV charging infrastructure solution - DeltaGrid energy management gateways - to secure data transmission between EV charging piles and the energy management platforms.
Edward Tsai, vice president of strategic partnership at VicOne, said the global EV market has entered a stage of rapid development and will easily become the target of hackers. The battle has begun in the EV information security chain, where EV power infrastructure is very important but easy to be ignored, Tsai continued, noting that hackers may falsify the usage records through charging piles or even invade vehicles through wireless channels to endanger driving safety.
Accordingly, Tsai stressed, building an EV ecosystem with cybersecurity as the core is critical to achieving a safer and more competitive future for the entire automotive supply chain.
Cally Ko, vice president and general manager of corporate strategic business development and alliance at Delta, pointed out that as demand for charging infrastructure has extended from residential to commercial spaces, DeltaGrid EVM system can empower businesses to realize their vision of sustainable operations through optimized charging pile management and efficiency.
Ko continued that the partnership with VicOne will enable Delta's customers to comply with the highest international standards and regulations and quickly deploy safer and more efficient charging infrastructure.
