GREENFIELD — LifePath, a Greenfield-based nonprofit serving older adults and people with disabilities in Franklin County and the North Quabbin area, will hold a free Technology Help Day on Thursday to teach seniors how to do basic tasks on their laptops, tablets or smartphones.
Technology Help Day will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon at LifePath’s offices, located at 101 Munson St., Suite 201. Walk-in appointments are welcome, though reservations are appreciated by calling 413-773-5555, ext. 3006. Masks will be required for all attendees.
According to Associate Director of Volunteer Resources Carmela Lanza-Weil, this is the second technology-focused event that LifePath has held this year. The first took place in March, with the help of students from Wellesley College. LifePath will hold Thursday’s event in partnership with the Melanson accounting firm that is based in the same office building. Technology support will be provided by two Melanson staff members.
The event will be driven entirely by the needs of the attendees, who are expected to bring their own devices from home. Lanza-Weil noted that on a previous Technology Help Day, LifePath welcomed attendees who were seeking help with transferring pictures from their phones to their Instagram accounts, signing up for a Facebook account, and setting up their cellphones, among other tasks.
Lanza-Weil is planning for a smaller-scale event.
“Depending on how complicated the need is,” she said, “I’m thinking we can accommodate up to 20 people”
While LifePath is interested in holding Technology Help Days more frequently, Lanza-Weil said more volunteers are needed. She encourages anyone interested in volunteering to visit LifePath’s website, lifepathma.org, where they can see all of the volunteer opportunities the organization has available.
