  • By Mr Vijay Yalamanchili, Founder & CEO, Keka

Becoming an indispensable part of our lives, technology has taken a front seat in the world. All industries today are witnessing the value technology holds; so much that nothing remains untouched by it.

Be it a startup, a mid-level company or an MNC – in every structure and work pattern, we can see the shadow of technology. In today’s time, the companies that keep track of all technological updates have an edge over their competitors. Besides formulating growth strategies and forecasting, technology also helps form realistic goals and find ways to achieve them.

Over time, a lot of technological advancements have been introduced. They have not only made things more efficient in terms of cost and time but have also helped in making things a lot more convenient. Several menial and mundane jobs have been taken over by technology. By this, human capabilities are being used in more critical tasks requiring more effort and attention.

One such area where Technology has positively transformed everything is Human Resource Management systems in organisations (HRMS).  The human resource management system is a whole framework which organisations use for the management of their internal HR functions.

Many technological advancements have been introduced in this sector to make the system more transparent, convenient and efficient.

For the first time, HR technologies have emerged as the prime focus for organisations, helping them to reach their goals. If a company is quick enough to adapt to any business line, the HR technologies can help in identifying and leveraging the skills of the staff members and employees to assist the business in excelling in a new direction.

Latest technological advancements in HRM:

  1. Increased focus on data analytics

Data analytics is essential in HRM because it helps define retention and hiring plans. It not only helps with quick and better decision making, but also makes the administration processes easier. Data Analytics has also played a role in making normal functions of taking employee feedback and employee surveys smoother, more convenient and transparent.

  1. IoT

IoT, short form for the Internet of Things, is defined as a game-changer in the HRM sector. It is because of IoT that employers can now have access to performance data of employees. It helps the managers simplify the evaluation and appraisal process, making the HR-related work in the organization more accurate and streamlined. This saves a lot of time and effort.

  1. Cloud-based HR

Cloud computing helps HRM in becoming more structured and systematic. It allows HR managers to restructure and automate data in cumbersome HR processes like onboarding new employees, timesheet submission, feedback, payroll, performance reviews and vacation requests processes.

It helps in eliminating the tiresome and hectic task of paperwork associated with the essential HR functions in a company. This assists in making the HR team more responsive. HR personnel are now managing and responding to workforce requests from anywhere globally.

  1. Remote recruitment systems

One of the most exciting roles technology plays in HR management is the automation of recruitment systems. Some companies also use chatbots for their recruitment process nowadays. Automated forms or chatbots not just reduce the time spent on the process but also make the job more accurate and hassle-free. From advertising the job, and explaining the job description, to ultimately hiring employees, everything can be handled by automated recruitment systems.

  1. Digital cognitive-behavioural therapy tools

The mental health of employees plays an essential role in their efficiency and makes them more productive and encouraged to give their best.

Cognitive-behavioural therapy, or digital CBT, is a branch of online or blended therapy where treatments and interventions help employees manage their mental health symptoms and ultimately ensures their well-being.

Various digital cognitive behavioural therapy tools are available, which help organisations keep their employees stress free and mentally healthy.

  1. HR Tech with gamification, AI, and AR/VR

Companies use AR and VR technologies to hire employees or conduct job interviews, particularly for offsite or virtual positions. Apart from this, with the rise in the trend of remote jobs, training and development sessions of employees are also being conducted online. Due to the same, the requirement for these types of technologies has increased, including the usage of HR tech with gamification, AI and AR/VR for a more effective and realistic approach.

Technology has proved to be the one support system every organization today needs to succeed. While the pandemic underlined its importance and brought it to the surface, several companies clung on to it to survive. It has positively impacted all touch points- and the Human Resources field was no different. If anything, technology made things easier for HR departments across the globe and aided them in handling the workplace much better from their screen at the comfort of their homes.
