Technology: Steel rail feels so very 19th century – Santa Cruz Sentinel

Text to Speech

No Way says we must keep the tracks in place so when the funding finally arrives we can put in a train. Isn’t it likely that once the funding arrives technology will have made train tracks superfluous? How probable is it that we could choose automated wheeled trams or personal vehicles on our existing greenway or even an elevated transit vehicle over the greenway or Highway 1. What is so special about a steel rail?

Seems very 19th century to me.

— Steve Plumb, Santa Cruz

The Sentinel welcomes your letters to the editor. Letters should be short, no more than 150 words. We do not accept anonymous letters. Letter-writers should include their full name as well as a street address and telephone number. We don’t publish those details in the newspaper, but need the information for verification purposes. Occasionally, we reject letters simply because we’ve had so many on the same subject. Submit your letters online at www.santacruzsentinel.com/submit-letters.
