According to a report by Business Insider, wealthy families involved in the college admissions scandal were advised to have their children falsely claim to be racial minorities on their applications to boost their chances of being accepted at top colleges. The Wall Street Journal originally reported that William "Rick' Singer, the man behind the scheme, told parents that not having their children lie about their race would leave them in a 'competitive disadvantage' in the admissions process.
