GRAND FORKS – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), spoke at the 15th annual Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Summit at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks yesterday highlighting North Dakota’s technology sector capabilities and the need for technology innovation to keep up with our competitors, specifically China.

“Innovative technology is no longer what we need to excel, it is now what we need to survive in the face of competition from our adversaries. America must continue to move at the speed of China,” said Senator Cramer. “We have a lot of great ideas here in North Dakota that can be turned into something that can help us compete with our adversaries.”

Senator Cramer then introduced Rear Admiral Lorin Selby, Chief of Naval Research at the Office of Naval Research, to deliver remarks. The senator brought Rear Admiral Selby to visit the state after discussing North Dakota’s technology capabilities with Rear Admiral Selby when he testified before the SASC Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee at a hearing in April.

Rear Admiral Selby focused his remarks on reimagining naval power in the changing technology environment with intelligent autonomous systems.
