PRANKSTERS have taken control of the Metropolitan Police Twitter account and are sending bizarre jibes to its 1.2million followers.

A string of tweets have been posted on the official account calling for the release of a drill rap artist called Digga D.

The tweets also linked to press releases regarding the rapper and an apparently missing child.

Other childish messages include "F*** the police" with links to false press releases from the force’s website.

One read: "We are the police... Cal and dylan are gay btw.”

Twitter users immediately began responding the posts warning the "hackers" they would be easily found by cops.

Others jokingly questioned whether the force's Twitter password was "999".

One wrote: "Lool don't tell me metropolitan police Twitter account got hacked".

Another said: "Balls of steel hacking the feds".

While one wrote: "Mate you can do better than that...it's the met police come on.."

Some users suggested the hackers managed to gain access through the news posting software from 'MyNewsDesk' - with the posts automatically shared on Twitter.

Digga D rose to fame after song No Diet was used as a the soundtrack to a video Zac Efron posted on Instagram.

But in May, he hinted he was in jail after asking fans on Snapchat to him what they thought of album Double Tap Diaries but to send their responses to Wandsworth Prison.

He said: "Write to me and tell me what you think of the tape!!! A9189dz. HMP Wandsworth, Heathfield Road, London SW18 3HU."

The tweets have now been deleted from the Met twitter page - but only after receiving hundreds of likes and comments.

Superintendent Roy Smith tweeted: "Our media team are working hard to delete the messages and ensure the security of the account.

"Please ignore any Tweets until we verify that it is back under official control."
