Schoolgirls whisked to secret sites for GCHQ cybersecurity workshops | News

More than a thousand schoolgirls will be whisked to secret locations to meet specialists from GCHQ in an effort to hack away at male domination in the cybersecurity industry.

The Year 8 pupils will be shown how to code drones and robots, crack passwords and build phishing emails during the EmPowerCyber events.

At present, women currently only account for 11 per cent of the global cyber workforce, and just 8 per cent in the UK.

In response, some 1,000 disadvantaged girls from 25 schools in the southwest will be taken to a location near GCHQ’s base in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, for a day of workshops with leading government and private cybersecurity staff.

A smaller event is taking place in the northeast of England for 300 girls
