Red Dead Redemption 2 is an influence on Breath of the Wild sequel

iSpeech

We are learning about the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel in the vaguest of whispers and rumors. Will it have multiplayer? Eiji Aonuma isn’t talking. What will the story be like? [Insert shrug emoticon.] However, Aonuma has talked about what the Breath of the Wild team has been playing lately. With regard to the younger staff on his team, he said to IGN, “[Something] I did hear that a lot of people were playing was Red Dead Redemption 2.”

Yeah, so, Rockstar’s Western open-world drama is one of the influences on the Breath of the Wild sequel. Does that mean Link will suddenly be using guns, or that horse testicle size will change with the weather? I’m going to go out on a limb and say that I doubt that. But I am curious if maybe the cinematic nature of Red Dead Redemption 2 might rub off on the sequel. It’s all just speculation at this point!

As for what open-world games in general have influenced the development team, Aonuma said, “When I was working on Breath of the Wild, the director [Hidemaro Fujibayashi] was playing Skyrim.” However, Aonuma himself has just been playing Cadence of Hyrule, which isn’t very surprising.

It’s actually encouraging to know that Nintendo is keeping abreast of different game development methodologies around the world. Even if you happen to hate Red Dead Redemption 2, it’s nice to know that Nintendo might be mining some of its better features to incorporate into the Breath of the Wild sequel.
