Andrew Trask (OpenMined, DeepMind, Oxford) in conversation w/Morten Dahl (Dropout Labs), Peter Eckersley (Partnership on AI) and Brendan McMahan (Google AI)

Morten Dahl works in privacy-preserving machine learning and is the creator of TF Encrypted, an open-source project for integrating and experimenting with secure machine learning in TensorFlow. With a background in cryptography and privacy, Morten has spent recent years applying and adapting techniques from these fields to ML. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Aarhus University.

Andrew Trask is a PhD Student at the University of Oxford, a Research Scientist at DeepMind in London and the lead of OpenMined. His work focuses on Privacy and Deep Learning. In addition to his research, Andrew is the author of Grokking Deep Learning, a Manning Publications introductory book which has sold over 10,000 copies (it’s not even a year old!). Andrew is also an instructor in Udacity’s Deep Learning Nanodegree, and the author of a popular machine learning blog http://iamtrask.github.io

Brendan McMahan is a Senior Staff Research Scientist at Google, where he leads efforts on decentralized and privacy-preserving machine learning. The team that he co-founded has pioneered the concept of federated learning and continues to push the boundaries of what is possible when working with decentralized data using privacy-preserving techniques. Brendan joined Google in 2007 and previously received his Ph.D. in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University.

Peter Eckersley is Director of Research at the Partnership on AI, a collaboration between the major technology companies, civil society, and academia to ensure that AI is designed and used to benefit humanity. He leads PAI's research on machine learning policy and ethics, including projects within PAI itself and projects in collaboration with the Partnership's extensive membership. Peter was previously the Chief Computer Scientist for the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

RAAIS is a community for entrepreneurs and researchers who accelerate the science and applications of AI technology for the greater good. The London-based AI conference is a one-day event covering machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, data science, healthcare and life sciences.

RAAIS is presented by The RAAIS Foundation, a non-for-profit with a mission to education and research in AI for the common good. We are founding supporters of OpenMined and Open Climate Fix.

In prior years, we have featured academics and company leadership from Graphcore, DeepMind, LabGenius, Recursion Pharmaceuticals, Stanford University, Berkeley, UCL, Cambridge, Uber, Benevolent.AI, SwiftKey, Magic Pony Technology, Twitter, Lyft, Niantic, Blue Yonder, The Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT, Darktrace, Mapillary, Daedelian, Orbital Insight, University of Bristol, TwentyBN, Facebook, Google, University of Toronto, Cloudera and Infarm.
