ROCKFORD (WREX) — People from all over the region are making their way to the stateline for the National Softball Association World Series.

The NSA hosted its opening ceremonies at Rivets Stadium on Wednesday.

The 85 team tournament represents the entire Midwest and will bring thousands of people to the Rockford area from now through the end of the weekend.

City officials believe the tournament will provide a boost to the local economy.

“Visitors spend money, and visitors mean jobs, so these people who are here for the next several days are going to be eating at our restaurants, filling up at our gas stations, shopping at our stores, and infusing money into our local economy,” RACVB President & CEO John Groh said.

Rockford expects the event to bring in more than $1 million to the local economy.
