New technology at Rose State College is helping make repairs easier at Tinker Air Force Base."We've got to work smarter, not harder," said Brian Murphy, with the Oklahoma Additive Manufacturing Center.That's the whole idea behind this brand-new, state-of-the-art, metal 3-D printing technology at Rose State College."This is the first and only program of its type in Oklahoma and one of a handful in the U.S.," Murphy said.Murphy, who teaches base engineers and personnel at Tinker how to use the metal 3-D printers, said metal printing means they build parts on demand without taking up a lot of space or leaving behind a lot of excess waste."Instead of these big warehouses full of parts out there somewhere on the battlefield or even here in America, you have these metal warehouses that can produce parts on-demand," Murphy said.The 3-D printing technology can be used in numerous fields, like aerospace and the U.S. Department of Defense."You can actually build moving parts that come out of the machine and actually work," Murphy said.
