Long Beach City College gets $10,000 for automotive technology program – Press Telegram
Long Beach City College has received a $10,000 donation for its automotive technology program.
The college announced on Monday, Oct. 25, that the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dealers Association gave the money unsolicited to fund scholarships, new technology and equipment for the program, as well as tools for recent graduates who can’t afford them on their own.
“This gift is certainly a tribute to our incredible faculty and classified staff who are tireless in preparing our students to successfully enter the automotive industry,” Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees President Uduak-Joe Ntuk said in a statement. “Their work alone makes LBCC’s automotive technology the exceptional program it is today.”
LBCC’s automotive technology program teaches students how to service cars, like fixing engines and transmissions, the school’s website reads. Students can pursue an associate degree in automotive technology or they can receive certificates in specific skills, such as engine performance service, automotive maintenance service, or engine and transmission service.
Graduates can move into the automotive industry as general technicians, auto electricians or transmission technicians, among other careers.
“Providing financial assistance that can be used for equipment upgrades or tuition assistance for students is a way to help develop the technicians of our future,” Jake Kahen, general manager of Lexus of Cerritos and a member of the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dealers Association, said in a statement.
