Irving-based Kimberly-Clark made another significant change in its executive leadership team earlier this week.

Zack Hicks, who most recently was the chief executive officer of Plano-based Toyota Connected, became Kimberly-Clark’s chief digital and technology officer Tuesday. He is the first person to serve in the newly created role and is part of the company’s goal to expand its business through technological innovation.

“I’m excited to work with the team to bring together strong capability and next-generation technology solutions to help the company continue to win today and position us well for the future,” Hicks said in the release.

He held leadership roles in some capacity for the last 26 years at Toyota Motors North America and Toyota Motor Sales, USA. and completed his MBA at University of California, Irvine.

Hicks comes aboard a few months after Nelson Urdaneta was appointed chief financial officer and Kimberly-Clark purchased a majority stake in Thinx, a maker of period underwear. Thinx is one of many brands under the company’s ownership, which includes Kleenex, Cottonelle, Poise and Huggies.

Kimberly-Clark had its quarterly earnings call Tuesday and reported $437 million in earnings. Wall Street predicted an earnings per share of $1.35, which the company came short of, with adjusted earnings per share of $1.34. Its quarterly revenue of roughly $5.06 billion surpassed analysts’ predictions and is a 7% increase from a year ago, according to the SEC filing.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
