Another day, another technological privacy debacle. This time NSO, the shadowy Israeli security company, has reportedly told buyers that its ‘Pegasus’ spyware can scrape user’s data from the world’s biggest technology giants: Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon.

NSO claims that Pegasus has only been sold to governments and security forces to infiltrate terrorist technology and denies promoting hacking tools that can access cloud data. In May, Pegasus was believed to be behind the widespread WhatsApp hack that could give bad actors full access to a target’s smartphone. It was believed that it was being used to target activists and journalists by overzealous regimes.
