Hacker Sentenced 27 for Launching DDoS Attacks on Gaming Companies

A man from Utah sentenced 27 months in prison for launching massive DDoS attack against Sony and online gaming companies and its servers.

Austin Thompson (23) malicious hacker resides in Utah involved denial-of-service hacking attacks against multiple victims between 2013 and 2014. 

Austin was Pleaded Guilty in Federal court in last year November for DoS attack and take down those compromised network offline.

DDoS Attack is one of most dangerous threat for any organization and the attack main aims to exhaust the resources of a network, application or service that leads an organization to face the various technical impacts.

According to DOJ, between December 2013 and January 2014, Thompson’s attacks, which flooded his victims’ servers with enough internet traffic to take them offline, were directed mainly at online gaming companies and servers, including then San Diego-based Sony Online Entertainment.  

Austin using twitter account @DerpTrolling that he used for posting screenshots or other photos showing that victims’ servers had been taken down.

His powerful DDoS attacks took down many of the game servers and related computers which caused at least cause $95,000 in damages.

The defendant, who is free on bond, was ordered to surrender to authorities on August 23 to begin his sentence.
