WESTERNVILLE — Patrons of the Western Town Library, 9172 Main St., can enjoy some technology enhancements as a pair of grants has helped the library purchase a laptop computer and a smart TV. The additions will provide a capability for video conferencing, group presentations, and general use, library officials have announced.

The portable laptop is equipped with a camera and audio capability for virtual meetings and can be used in different parts of the library and under special conditions outside the library, the announcement said, adding it has a host of Microsoft applications for preparation of more formal or professional documents.

The Smart TV can be used to display presentations at group meetings. In addition, the library has a video camera with a microphone, tripod, and cables to show the speaker or the group attending a meeting. The equipment purchased offers current state of the art capabilities in hosting meetings and speakers and offers a robust tool for producing professional products, the announcement said.

“This technology upgrade was made possible because of the generosity of donors devoted to helping enhance the quality of life in our region,” the announcement said.

One grant was awarded from the Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Community Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation, which was established in 2018 to support programs, projects and initiatives designed to broadly impact, and enhance the quality of life in the communities of Boonville, Constableville, and Westernville in perpetuity.

In addition, Western Town Library received a grant from the Kathleen A. Perreault Fund of the Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties. This is a field-of-interest fund established in memory of Kathleen A. Perreault to provide support for area libraries and scholarships for local students.

The Western Town Library is a multipurpose organization dedicated to enriching the lives of community members by providing recreational and educational services. It is an affiliate of the Mid-York Library System which provides support, on-line services and shares the Mid-York catalog of books, magazines and DVDs.
