Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo is using technology to give residents new experiences and improve quality of life.
Mike Duffy, who uses a wheelchair to get around Lake Ridge, is looking forward to a virtual trip to the Badlands in South Dakota thanks to a virtual reality headset. The headset, which is being purchased by the facility for resident use, will not only allow residents to experience new places, the user-controlled program will help residents exercise their muscle and range of motion skills.
Dawn Heuer, Lake Ridge Assessments Manager and RN-BSN helped Duffy with the trial run of the virtual headset recently. According to a press release, the 3D, immersive environment is expected to help older adults not only boost their mood, but promote brain activity.
