Forensics 2016: Issues in Accreditation (Part 1)

iSpeech

This is part one of the “Issues in Accreditation” panel presented during ABA Criminal Justice Section’s “Seventh Annual Prescriptions for Criminal Justice Forensics Conference” on June 3 in New York.

The Digital Age has brought with it digital evidence. Cell phone or computer usage is relevant to civil, criminal and national security cases running the gamut from domestic relations to terrorism whether information of evidentiary value is stored on computer or smart phone or on “the cloud,” investigators are seeking access to code. Some units are located within crime laboratories but many more are located in law enforcement units that are not accredited. This panel will discuss the issues regarding forensic units that are not subject to accreditation, the need or benefits or value, of accreditation, if any.

Moderator:
Matthew Gamette, Idaho State Police Forensic Services, Meridian, ID
