Jason and I met a little over a year ago by some chance encounter. Jason being from Montréal and myself from Winnipeg, we are both professional contemporary dancers, choreographers and actors. Now, a year later, we've almost completed our artist residency at Danse à la Carte, and will be heading to Toronto, ON and Winnipeg, MB to premier our first collaborative creation, Falling.
The Project
Falling explores the pleasure and the pain, the suffering and the euphoria of love. It follows the trajectory of a couple who journey from total vulnerability to complete estrangement, from naked trust to layers of barriers between them. Using music from Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, we see all seasons of the couple's relationship. Moments ranging from the elation of infatuation, the symbiosis of partnership, the absurdity of sex, and the necessary back and forth struggle to remain together makes this new dance work a beautifully tragic take on love and loss.
The Presenters
Falling will premier at the Dance Matters Dance Productions, Series 3 - Into the Fire at the Scotiabank Studio Theatre in Toronto, Ontario on April 22nd-23rd, 2017. The Winnipeg production will take place at the Rachel Browne Theatre on April 27th-29th through Winnipeg's Contemporary Dancers with post-show artist chats following every performance. The mini-tour will be of great benefit in informing where the work has space for further exploration and development to create an eventual full-length work.
Where you come in
Although we've been fortunate in receiving some funds from the Winnipeg Arts Council and Canada Council for the Arts, we still need to raise more money to make this project a sustainable one. Your contribution will help with artist fees, costume, set, promotion, and living expenses during our tour. By helping now, you are also investing in the longevity of the work as plans for additional residencies to make it a full-length work are underway.
