- An APC chieftain, Alhaji Dahiru Umar, has told President Muhammadu Buhari to obey the appellate court order concerning former NSA, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd)

- Dasuki’s prolonged detention was described by the Court of Appeal in Abuja as illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional; and the court ordered his release on conditional bail

- According to the three-man panel of justices, the ex NSA’s fundamental right had been brazenly and brutally breached

Alhaji Dahiru Umar, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, has expressed hope that the latest Court of Appeal order for the release of former national security adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), would be obeyed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Umar, an associate of the former NSA, urged Buhari to show there is no personal vendetta involved and respect the higher court order as a mark of respect for the rule of law, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng notes that Dasuki’s prolonged detention had been described by the Court of Appeal in Abuja as illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional. The court further ordered his release on conditional bail.

According to the appellate court’s three-man panel of judges led by Justice Tinuade Akomolafe-Wilson, the DSS and its director general acted outside their constitutional powers as regards Dasuki’s detention since December 29, 2015.

Dasuki was also awarded a N5m fine by the court, as compensation for the breach of his fundamental right.

The justices held that the prolonged detention without trial in any fresh charge or investigation contrary to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, was a brazen and brutal breach of the ex NSA’s fundamental right.

The lead justice, in his judgment, reimposed the bail terms earlier granted Dasuki by a Federal High Court in Abuja and admitted him on bail in the sum of N100m and two sureties in the like sum.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that family members and associates of Col Sambo Dasuki (NSA) are eagerly awaiting his release, after four years in the custody of State Security Service (SSS).

The family members urged President Muhammadu Buhari to consider the Appeal Court’s ‘landmark’ judgement, having disobeyed previous courts’ rulings ordering that Dasuki be granted bail.

According to them, the president needs to release Dasuki after the latest judgement. They added that with this, six different judges have now ordered his release.
