Cybersecurity job postings rise, account for 20% of all IT job postings this year

Job postings are trending upward for cybersecurity workers, according to an analysis by CompTIA, a trade association for the IT industry. It found cybersecurity job postings accounted for 20% of job postings for IT occupations. That is up from 18% in 2020 and 17% in 2019.
“It’s been an especially challenging period on the cybersecurity front with attacks on critical infrastructure, the growing threat of ransomware, and of course, new vulnerabilities brought on by the pandemic,” said Tim Herbert, executive VP for research and market intelligence at CompTIA.
The tight labor market for cybersecurity professionals means employers must cast even wider nets and look internally to develop talent from within their own ranks, Herbert said.
There were 529,123 cybersecurity job postings this year through September. That’s up from 456,363 during the same period in 2020 and 448,853 in 2019.
