China Cybersecurity Police to Crack Down on Trolls, Fake Accounts
China’ cybersecurity officials said they have launched a six-month operation to crack down on online trolls and fake accounts.
The Ministry of Public Security said its cybersecurity division would identify and remove social media accounts and posts that disrupted social harmony, the ministry said in a statement published by Xinhua and on the official government website.
The authorities said some were seeking profits from illegal activities while others published “illegal and harmful information” with the intention of manipulating or disrupting online public opinion.
China cybersecurity officials would also crack down on paid deletion of certain posts or services that offered to hype or diminish certain views.
The ministry asked users to help the investigation by reporting trolls and fakes.
