JANESVILLE - Mercyhealth recently announced it learned of a data breach involving the same third party vendor used by Beloit Health System, which reported a data breach earlier this year.

Mercyhealth and Beloit Health System used OS Inc. for claims processing and updating services. Both health systems say that on or about Dec. 21, 2018, OS Inc. learned of the suspicious activity and the company confirmed there was unauthorized access to employees' email accounts from Oct. 15, 2018 through Dec. 21, 2018.

Beloit Health System and Mercyhealth were among 45 health care providers nationwide to have suffer data breaches.

The Janesville Gazette reports that Mercyhealth announced the breach on Wednesday. Beloit Health System announced the breach on May 31.

Both health systems say no financial or medical information was involved in the data breach.

OS Inc. will provide information to patients whose accounts were affected in the data breach. Mercyhealth patients who have questions about the data breach can call 800-273-7604.
