AISS 2022 recap – discussions around cybersecurity and privacy
The 17th edition of the NASSCOM-DSCI Annual Information Security Summit (AISS) 2022 and the 12th edition of the DSCI Excellence Awards was hosted in a physical capacity after a gap of two years of hosting in virtual mode.
The three-day long event took place between 20-22 December 2022 at The Leela Ambience Hotel, Gurugram, joined by Hon’ble Chief Guest, Dr. Saurabh Garg, CEO, Unique Identification Authority of India, and Mr. Rajendra S Pawar, Chairman & Co-Founder, NIIT Group for the inaugural and the book launch titled “Gearing Up for Digital ++ Reimagining Security and Trust”.
The event successfully hosted many key sub-events with the presence of top security professionals, dignitaries, and delegates who came from diverse sectors.
12th edition of DSCI Excellence Awards 2022
The 12th edition of DSCI Excellence Awards 2022 was a notable event in the cybersecurity industry, bringing together top security professionals to discuss and recognize advancements in the field. The awards ceremony honored those who have made significant contributions to the field of cybersecurity and privacy, with the UIDAI winning the award for “Best Security Practices” in the government sector.
Union Bank of India, ONGC, BSE, and ICICI Lombard General Insurance won awards in different categories. (Check figure 1)

The event also recognized top security leaders for their contributions towards the development of security policies within their organization and the ecosystem.
Tata Consultancy Services won the award for the ‘Best Privacy Practices in Organization’.

Cybersecurity CTF Hackathon winners
The 12th edition of DSCI Excellence Awards 2022 featured a Cybersecurity CTF Hackathon, where participants put their skills to the test in identifying and neutralizing security threats. The hackathon was a fierce competition with many talented participants who demonstrated a deep understanding of cybersecurity and were able to identify and neutralize a wide range of threats, impressing the judges and solidifying their place as the top team in the hackathon.
Ashutosh Srivastava and Abhinav Saini (Team kernel_panic) were the 1st runners-up of the CTF Hackathon 2022.

Manas Chaudhary and Anshul Singh (Team Loli_pwn) were the 2nd runners-up of the CTF Hackathon 2022.
Overall, the hackathon was a great opportunity for participants to showcase their skills, gain recognition and learn from the experts in the field.
Diversity Session
‘Women in Security’, a Diversity Session at AISS2022 brought in various perspectives around the changing role of women in security, the session was led by -Mr. Visagan Subburayalu, Senior Director, Technology, Target in India -Mr. Vinayak Godse CEO, Data Security Council of India -Ms. Leenika Khattar, Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging – Charter, NASSCOM -Ms. Sakshi Vidur, Director of Information Security, Ex – Philip, Ex – Yum! Brands -Ms. Selva Rani, Cyber Security Delivery Head, TCS.
The discussion aimed to bring in various perspectives on the changing role of women in security and discuss measures that should be taken to reduce the gender gap in the industry. Alumni of Cybershikhsaa program present at the session added to the discussion by sharing their struggles of re-entering the industry after a long career break, and how CyberShikshaa course helped them make a comeback
Digital Forensics Summit
The Digital Forensic Sub-Summit at AISS 2022 was a highly informative and engaging event, focusing on the latest developments and best practices in digital forensics. The sub-summit featured an array of experts from various industries including names like:

- Mr. P S Sandhu, IPS, DGP, CID Karnataka
As part of the panel, Justice Talwant Singh, High Court of Delhi stated, “Even though people are aware but still fall for traps. The duty officer may or may not be aware of cybercrime as he is the first person who will write the complaint regarding the crime. The onus is on us to be vigilant.”
Adding to this, “The first training facility was set up in 2005 by NASSCOM. Prevention is better than cure but we will always have security breaches. The risk is pervasive. More time will be invested in making digital platforms a secure place.” – Mr. Rajendra S Pawar, Chairman, DSCI.
As a part of the Digital Forensic Sub-Summit, a series of Pathshala Masterclass were conducted dwelling deeply on the themes pivotal to cybersecurity. Check out the highlights here.
A moot court was also organized during the digital forensics sub-summit. It was an engrossing and educative session that showcased how many layers are there during a cyber security litigation process.
Workshop with Government eMarketplace (GeM)
A workshop with Government eMarketplace was held during the AISS 2022 conference, which was an excellent opportunity for attendees to learn about the Government eMarketplace (GeM) and its potential benefits for procurement. GeM is a government-operated online procurement portal for all government buyers, including central/state ministries, departments, and bodies which has achieved a milestone order value of ₹1 lakh crore for Fy 2021-22.
It was conducted by Mr. Vishal Kapil AVP – Seller Management & Mr. Anoop Dhanvijay Director – CPSEs & Ministries, Government e-Marketplace (GeM).
The workshop was a great insight into the services & facilities provided by the GeM_India Government e-Marketplace, the registration process, and the documents required.
Privacy Sub Summit
The Privacy Sub-Summit held at AISS 2022 was a highly-anticipated event that brought together leading privacy experts from various industries to discuss and explore the latest developments in privacy and data protection. Attendees had the opportunity to gain insights into the current state of privacy regulations and best practices, as well as the latest trends in data protection and privacy-enhancing technologies.
