AdChoices About That Little Blue Icon

iSpeech.org

Have you ever seen an online ad for a product you just researched on another website? That's an example of interest-based advertising, and you can learn about it through this blue triangular icon with the phrase "AdChoices" next to it.

If you see the icon and choose to click on it, it will tell you more about the company providing you that ad and give you choices about receiving interest-based advertising.

Now that you recognise this icon, you'll notice it everywhere; in or around ads on news and retail websites, on social media, and within apps. When you see the AdChoices icon, rest assured that it's not something you've installed (or a virus or malware) and it's not an advertising company. It's a standardized notice that companies use to get your attention so that they can provide you with the information, and control, for interest-based advertising that you deserve.

Collection of interest-based data happens through cookies and advertising IDs on your devices. You can opt-out of receiving interest-based ads through easy-to-use tools. Advertising fuels the internet's economy, so you'll still see ads after you opt-out; they just won't be as relevant to your interests.

If companies are using interest-based advertising to reach you, they need to inform you about it when it's happening. That's why companies are using the AdChoices icon to let you know about it.
