Disadvantages of Skype
• Not a viable replacement for traditional phones
• Both parties need active computers, Skype WiFi phone or video phone
• Need to be signed on and on line to receive/place calls
• In order to have 24/7 access to computer-based service, computer must be on at all times increasing the cost and shorten the lifespan of the computer
• Security venerability: Since the computer must be on at all times and must run this application with the computer- based service, there is higher risk of security issues (i.e. viruses)
• Does not come with the ability to make outbound, non-Skype calls. Must purchase a pay as you go or monthly subscription service to place outbound calls to non-Skype users
• Does not come with the ability to receive inbound, non-Skype calls. User must purchase a telephone through the Skype website to receive inbound calls from non-Skype users
• Unable to connect cordless devices that provide mobility within the user's home
• Does not support 911 and cannot be used for emergency calls
• Does not support caller ID in the U.S., Mexico or other countries
• Does not include 16+ calling features you receive with ACN's Digital Phone Service
• Skype only includes call forwarding which only works if the user has purchased outbound calling credits
• Customer incurs a fee for Voice Mail
