A New NIST Cybersecurity Framework Could Be One Too Many for Software Developers

There’s something to be said for persistence. Last week, the White House announced that it had tasked the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) with creating a framework that would help technology companies develop more secure software. But with legal software and tech providers already struggling to track any number of competing security frameworks, there’s no guarantee that adding yet another one to the pile will yield much in the way of results.

“I’m not sure another framework specific for that [software] vertical would make a difference. There are so many frameworks out there,” said Kimball Parker, CEO of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati’s tech subsidiary SixFifty.
