Metasploit comes with a feature called Autopwn, to explain Autopwn in its basic form, it runs an nmap scan against a range of IP's or single IP's once a list of open ports comes back, Metasploit checks its exploit repository and matches up ports to those exploits. It then starts running a laundry list of exploits against the system in hopes of running a successful buffer overflow, if successful a bunch of shells will be given to you.
