Hyderabad: The newly-built Yadadri temple atop the Yadagirigutta hillock, is now fully protected from lightning strikes.
For this, the temple authorities have installed German-based ‘Obo-Betterma-nn’ lightening protection equipment on Tritala, Panchatala, Sapta Tala gopuram and main Vimana Gopuram.
“Lightning strikes cause heavy damage to the temple assets. To keep the temple safe and from extensive damage, these lightning arresters have been installed across all temple gopurams,” Linga Reddy, SE, electrical wing in-charge of Yadadri temple complex, told TOI.
He explained, “The equipment protects the insulation and conductors of the system from the lightning. It carries the electrical matter from the thundercloud safely down into the earth without allowing it to touch even a single beam of the temple complex.”
The state-of-the-art equipment set up at a cost of 30 to 35 lakh using certain specialised components helps in protecting the temple for another 1,000 years.
This apart, the same technology is also being used for new Telangana Secretariat, Police Command Control Centre and 32 new collectorate complexes, he said.
