Wolf Administration Visits Lycoming Career and Technology Center to Highlight Investments in Career and Technical Education

Hughesville, PA - Pennsylvania Department of Education Secretary Dr. Noe Ortega today visited Lycoming Career and Technology Center to highlight career and technical education and Governor Tom Wolf’s proposed investments in education across the commonwealth. 

“Career and technical centers offer critical growth pathways for students who are considering their future. Investing in these students and programs is crucial to the success of the commonwealth,” said Sec. Ortega. “When we help career and technical centers and students succeed, we improve the future workforce and economy of the commonwealth.” 

Continuing his commitment to creating multiple pathways to success for all students, Gov. Wolf has proposed a $6 million increase for career and technical education in his final budget. The budget also proposes $1.55 billion in basic education funding, ​including $200 million for special education. 

During the past seven years, the Wolf Administration has secured $40 million for career and technical education and has invested $116 million in science, computer science and technical education, including $80 million in the innovative PAsmart program and $36 million in apprenticeships and workforce training. 

Since 2015, the number of career and technical education students earning industry-recognized credentials has increased by 38.7 percent and the number of credentials earned by students enrolled in CTE programs has grown by 33.6 percent.

"Career and technical education provides students with the hands-on experiences, skills, and knowledge to make a positive impact in their local community and throughout the state,” said Lycoming Career and Technology Center Executive Director Nathan Minium. “Our students are being prepared to enter the workforce, advance in careers, and continue their education at the post-secondary level, and we appreciate the support being provided at the local and state level." 

The Lycoming Career & Technology Center, an alliance of cooperating school districts, delivers quality career and technical programs through business and education partnerships to ensure successful transition to the workforce and continuing education. Programs include Automotive Technology, Building Construction, Computer Service Technology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Diversified Occupations, Early Childhood Education, and Health Careers.
