EUGENE, Ore. -- Concerns about cybersecurity threats have increased in the last month due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, experts say.
Vice President of Sales and Marketing David Hodgert with in Corvallis said there has been an increase in improving cybersecurity systems.
“We’re being very aware and diligent about making sure that we are protected and that we're protecting our clients.
Hodgert said there are two strategies folks can rely on to keep their information safe. One is to have a multi-step authentication where it requires two or more facts that only you would know to sign in. The other is a password manager that Hodgert said keeps your passwords all in one place.
“I use and our company uses LastPass: it stores your passwords encrypted in a remote location; you remember your one password and then you have access to all of those encrypted passwords," he said.
Hodgert said hackers can also try to get your information from your cell phone. He said Apple has a slightly better security system than other devices like Samsung but said the risk increases when you use the same password on multiple apps.
Old, unused computers and phones don't pose as big a threat as the ones you use every day, but Hodgert said there is still a way hackers can get your information from them.
"If you plug them in and you connect them to your internet, yes there is some risk, but if they just sit in your garage not being used there is no risk. What we tell you every time -- upgrade and patch your computers every time you are notified," he said.
Hodgert said another popular password manager is called Keeper.
