Windows Update

Microsoft has started to roll out a new cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1903 that includes numerous fixes for the operating system. This update was released to Windows Insiders last week to test before being made publicly available today.

The update is titled "2019-05 Cumulative Update for Windows Server, version 1903 for x64-based Systems (KB4497935)" and does not contain any security fixes.

KB4497935 Cumulative Update

While there are numerous issues resolved with this update, one that stands out is for the issue where USB drives or SD memory cards would have their drive letter reassigned during an update. This problem caused Microsoft to block all Windows 1903 upgrades if you had a USB drive or SD card inserted.

"Addresses an issue that may cause an external USB device or SD memory card to be reassigned to an incorrect drive during installation. For more information, seeĀ "This PC can't be upgraded to Windows 10"Ā error on a computer that has a USB device or SD card attached."

With theĀ release ofĀ KB4497935, Windows 10 1903 will be upgraded to build 18362.145.

Microsoft is aware of the following problems with this update:

Symptom Workaround

When opening games that utilize BattlEye anti-cheat software, the BattlEye UI or game may display one of the following errors:

  • ā€œFailed to start BattlEye Service.ā€
  • ā€œFailed to initialize BattlEye Service.ā€

Some games that use older BattlEye versions are not compatible with Windows 10, version 1903. BattlEye has provided an updated patch for games we know are affected.

For a list of recent games that use BattlEye, go toĀ www.battleye.com/.

Do one or more of the following:

  • Verify that your game is up to date with the latest available version. Some game platforms allow you to validate your game files, which can confirm that your installation is fully up to date.
  • Restart your system and open the game again.
  • Uninstall BattlEye usingĀ UninstallBE.exe, and then reopen your game.
  • Uninstall and reinstall your game.

Windows Sandbox may fail to start with "ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND (0x80070002)" on devices in which the operating system language is changed during the update process when installing Windows 10, version 1903. Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
