Where is CMOS (RTC) battery located in a Toshiba NB255?

John, thank you again for your help and concern.

I'll have to post later on the Linux distro (it involves setting up the external CD/DVD).

Here are the answers to your other questions:

As I wrote in post 13, when I press F12 during boot up, I get what I described: "LAN" and ""

When LAN is chosen, I get the message in post 11 (no OS)..

When " is chosen, it takes me to the same place as when I choose F2 on setup, and when I choose "Boot," the first option is "!HDD/SSD   TOSHIBA MK2565GSK-(S1),"   (The "!" before "HDD/SSD" is not a typo.)

When I chose the HDD/SSD option, I again get the boot up message described in post 11 (ending with OS not found).

I can only boot to Linux through the (external) CD.  After I installed Linux, the problem (ending with OS not found) persisted, so I reinstalled Linux.  I did get a message that Linux had already been installed, and I chose to reinstall Linux.

John, I'll post the distro and do the other steps you suggested later.

Thank you again,

Steve (aka Illinoisboy)
