Breaches in cybersecurity continue to grow in complexity and severity, costing companies more than $10 trillion per year by 2025, according to some estimates.
To help train future cybersecurity experts to help address this issue, Washington State University and Eastern Washington University recently landed more than $2 million each from the stateās 2022 supplemental operating budget to create cybersecurity degree programs.
WSU will create a bachelorās in cybersecurity operations degree, held at the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture at the Pullman, Tri-Cities, and Everett campuses.
Eastern Washington, meanwhile, will launch a masterās degree and two bachelorās degree programs, The Spokesman-Review reported.
Most entry-level positions in cybersecurity require, at a minimum, a bachelorās degree in computer science or cybersecurity. Seven colleges and universities in Washington state currently offer bachelors programs in cybersecurity and information assurance.
At the federal level, the Biden administrationās FY 2023 budget includes an 11% increase for cybersecurity spending, Cybersecurity Dive reported.
