Vulnerability of Children in Abusive Situations Heightened During Pandemic

Children in abusive situations are especially vulnerable now that schools are closed.

That’s according to Bev Moore Davis of Miles for Smiles, a non-profit group that works with adult survivors of child abuse.

She says teachers and guidance counsellors are often aware of child abuse, and most cases are actually reported through those in the school system.

That includes teachers and coaches, and those involved in group activities. Now that schools are closed, the number of reports of child abuse have dropped.

Moore Davis is encouraging adults to reach out to children they are in contact with, or to a close family member they trust.
