Two years after QNA hacking, Qatar emerges stronger and bolder

Speech Synthesis

Its been two years, when the website of Qatar News Agency (QNA) was hacked on the early hours of May 24, 2017 and it has been a period full of achievements for Qatar. The achievements are a tight slap on the face of siege countries that imposed unjust blockade on Qatar.

The hackers published fabricated statements which were attributed to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and used these false statements as  a justification to impose the pre-planned siege on Qatar on June 5, 2017.

The evil intentions behind the hacking was to tarnish the image of Qatar and undermine its sovereignty. But, contrary to the intentions of siege countries, Qatar emerged stronger and bolder from the unjust blockade which is evident from the illustrious past two years, which are replete with several accomplishments.

It did not take much time for the whole world to know who were perpetrators behind the this shameful cyber crime. On July 20, 2017, the investigation team of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) revealed that the hacking ‘originated from the UAE’. Even  The Washington Post quoted US intelligence officials saying that the UAE was behind the hacking of the agency’s website.

Qatar also approached largest specialised expertise in law firms, which in turn contracted with the largest companies specialised in the field of computer science and the Internet, and obtained solid and consistent evidence confirming Qatar’s past findings of the involvement of the UAE and Saudi Arabia in the hacking of the QNA’s website. Qatar has also taken many steps to strengthen its cyber security.

The efforts of siege countries have gone in vein as Qatar turned the blockade into a blessing in disguise. Looking back, it can be easily said that Qatar has accomplished many feats which have made the residents of this great country proud.

Helped by the visionary leadership of the country, Qatar has completed many world class infrastructure projects. Whether it is self-sufficiency in the field of agriculture and food, or infrastructure, Qatar has made big strides in the last two years, despite unjust blockade imposed on it since June 5.

Qatar inaugurated world-class Al Janoub Stadium on May 16 by hosting Amir Cup final. It is the second World Cup stadium to be completed after Khalifa International Stadium in May 2017. The stadium has a capacity of about 40,000 seats and will host the World Cup until the quarterfinals, with a roof that opens and closes in 30 minutes. It not only is the first stadium built from scratch but the installation of the pitch was completed in a world record time of just 9 hours 15 minutes.

Another achievement was soft opening of Doha Metro Project. Early this month, Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) created history by launching preview service for the first part of the Doha Metro’s Red Line. The launch, which was originally planned for 2020, came almost one year ahead of schedule.

Qatar has achieved 100 percent self-sufficiency in dairy and fresh poultry products after unjust blockade. A total of 120 new factories have been established in Qatar since the siege and 60 more establishments are expected to be completed in 2019.
