The Perks of Pool Resurfacing

iSpeech

When it comes to ugly, worn out swimming pools, we have all been there. Whether we have visited a friend's apartment pool, gone to a public one with our friends and family or looked into our own backyard in complete dismay, we are all familiar with swimming pools that have definitely seen better days. As summer rolls around and the weather warms up enough for backyard barbeques and pool parties, you may feel uncomfortable about inviting guests over to swim if there are cracks, discoloration, and rough patches. Aside from worrying that guests will find your pool "ugly", you may also be concerned that they will injure themselves if they trip on uneven areas or bump against jagged/rough spots. This can easily ruin a backyard event, so it is important to keep an eye on your pool and have it resurfaced when needed.

What Causes My Pool to Deteriorate?

Over the years, your pool will suffer from wear and tear. Chemicals, such as chlorine, can break down the pool's plaster lining and cause significant cracking. The sun's rays can also cause the plaster lining in your pool to deteriorate and may even cause the colors to fade. You can also expect discoloration to occur from constant use and oil-based products like sunscreen and tanning lotions. As the ground naturally shifts and settles, the foundation of your pool may start to crack. Although you should expect to start seeing this cracking over the course of time, it can still make entertaining in your backyard embarrassing. Pool resurfacing will fix any and all discoloration as well as damage that has occurred over the years and give you a beautiful, attractive pool once again.

How Do I Know If My Pool Needs To Be Resurfaced?

With each passing summer, you will probably begin to notice more and more damage in regards to your pool. While this is normal, you will need to consider resurfacing your pool if it becomes too bad. You should definitely have your pool resurfaced once the following start to become noticeable:

Cracks- Cracking in your pool will occur naturally over time, but you will need to have it resurfaced once you start to see any cracks since this can cause a lot of damage to your pool.

Discoloration- Although colors fade over time and you may notice spots of discoloration, this is still a big sign that you need to have your pool redone. It can be a sign of bacteria for starters, but primarily it is an indicator that the lining is starting to break down.

Missing Pieces- This is an obvious one; the moment you start noticing that pieces are missing from your pool, you definitely need to have it redone.

Etching- This refers to those really rough spots in your pool. Although most of the time your pool's surface will be rough in order to provide a better grip for your feet and hands, it should not be uncomfortably rough or jagged.

Enjoying Your New Pool

If you are ever in doubt as to whether or not you need your pool resurfaced, the answer is probably "yes", especially if you notice any of the aforementioned items. The process will leave you with an attractive pool that looks brand new and, as an added bonus, there are plenty of finishes that you can choose from. If you are looking to give your pool a makeover, you should definitely consider having it resurfaced. After all, who doesn't love relaxing on a lounge chair, cold drink in hand, beside a beautiful pool?
