The Government’s Role in Improving Private Sector Cybersecurity

Despite agreement about the benefits of increasing cybersecurity, there's been disagreement over the best approach to take in order to make the Internet more secure. Most recently, the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act of 2011 (CISPA) legislation, which passed the House in late April, has been threatened with a Presidential veto and critics argue that CISPA is a threat to privacy rights. This panel will explore what the government's role should be, and how the public and private sectors can strike the right balance to improve national security without sacrificing civil liberties.
