Thailand’s Government has issued a warning to online gamblers in the country, following an alleged contravention of their personal data.
The Thailand Computer Security Coordination Centre (ThaiCERT) said that about 3.3m Thai citizens’ personal information has been compromised and have been found in “foreign database systems which overlap with gambling websites.

The compromised data incorporates information such as names, birth dates, government identification numbers, phone numbers and banking information.

Wagering is illicit in Thailand, however, illicit wagering is flourishing. There have been several cases of illicit online wagering rings operating in the country. The agency has warned people against scam phone calls and other fraudulent contacts through social media.

Local police have been cracking down on illegal online gambling platforms in the region. However, it is near impossible for them to stop offshore platforms from targeting local residents.
