Tanzania’s Zanzibar pledges to embrace digital technology to spur economic growth

Tanzania’s Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi on Wednesday pledged to embrace digital technology, saying it was vital in accelerating economic growth.

“Digital technology is very crucial in the world today. We need to get prepared to fit in this competitive world by making our children computer literate and employable graduates to accelerate development,” Mwinyi said at the 17th graduation ceremony of the State University of Zanzibar.

Mwinyi said digital technology should be harnessed at its full potential in education.

He said authorities will continue investing in education at all levels by reviewing policies and increasing budget allocation to the sector to enable it produce the much needed professionals.





Mwinyi, who is also the chancellor of the university, pledged to improve the running of the higher learning institution and enable it to produce highly qualified graduates. A total of 1,894 students in various fields, including information, communication and technology, financial management, health and medical sciences, tourism and catering graduated for the 2020/2021 academic year.
