Six startups from around the world have been picked to work with experts at T-Mobile over the next few months to build 5G technologies that promote wellness and improve quality of life. They’re part of the fall 2021 T-Mobile Accelerator Wellness Technology Program.
The startups are innovating in the areas of personal health wearables and applications, from smart glasses for deaf and hard of hearing individuals, to fitness devices and smart apparel that enhance athletic performance, according to a news release today from T-Mobile.
“Consumers are increasingly interested in new ways that technology can improve their well-being, whether it’s better performance on the sports field or deeper diagnostics to monitor a health concern,” John Saw, executive vice president of advanced and emerging technologies at T-Mobile, said in the release. "With 5G we are beginning to see a vast array of new devices and services that give us better insight into our own health and can dramatically improve our quality of life.”
Companies in the accelerator work directly with T-Mobile experts to build, test, and bring to market new products and services using T-Mobile’s 5G network. The fall program runs through early November and will culminate in a Demo Day where participants showcase their accomplishments, T-Mobile said. Since its inception, the accelerator has worked with 75 startup companies that have raised more than $96 million.
Eighty percent of the alumni companies remain in business.
T-Mobile operates the accelerator and collaborates with Georgia Tech and Curiosity Lab at Peachtree Corners. It also operates the T-Mobile Ventures and is a co-founder of the 5G Open Innovation Lab.
Fall accelerator participants are Formsense, of San Diego, which is building the next generation of wearable technologies to keep people healthy, active and injury-free; Oliver, of Barcelona, a developer of a soccer-focused platform designed to prevent injury; Shot Scope, of Edinburgh, Scotland, a manufacturer of golf-improvement technology; SignGlasses, of Orem, Utah, whose technology offers a live, highly qualified sign language interpreter relayed to a pair of smart glasses; Somatix, of New York City, which developed an artificial intelligence-powered remote patient-monitoring platform to provide actionable insights, alerts, and analytics from wearables, including fluid intake and risk for dehydration, falling, medication intake, sleep analytics, smoking, activity trending, and activities of daily living); and Tripp, of Los Angeles, a research-backed digital wellness platform for personal transformation through immersive experiences that harness extended reality technology and best-in-class content.
