Stevens Institute computer system down following malware attack
The Stevens Institute of Technology has been attached by malware.
On Aug. 8 the Hoboken-based institute announced via its website it was experiencing malware issues and requested that no one at the university use computers connected to the Stevens network.
The computer system is still down Monday, officials said in an online update.
“In response to the attack, we have disabled systems on the network,” Stevens spokeswoman Thania Benios said in a statement to NJBIZ. “We are rapidly progressing toward a campus-wide resolution to support the needs of all constituencies including incoming students, current students, faculty and staff.”
Stevens released this statement on its home page:
“To date, this attack is not known to have affected Macs or mobile phones; however, users with Macs who also run Windows very likely have vulnerability. If you have been using your personal computers and devices, and they do not appear to be compromised, we strongly urge you to install Windows updates, ensure that you have strong, up-to-date virus protection, back up your computer and remove the backup media from the computer to store separately, and reset all personal passwords.”
