Something went wrong keyset does not exist [EXPERT FIX]

I have quite a few machines where after launching Outlook and trying to authenticate, they get a “something went wrong” error that Trusted Platform Module has malfunctioned, error code 80090016.  The server message is Keyset does not exist.

How to fix We couldn’t sign you in keyset does not exist error?

1. Perform an IISREST

  1. From your Start Menu, open Command Prompt with Administrator rights.
  2. Now type iisreset and then press Enter.

  3. After the process is successful you may close this window.

2. Remove Cryptographic Services files

  1. Firstly, end the ‘Cryptographic Services’ process from your Task Manager.

  2. From your Control Panel look for Folder Options, and in the View tab select Show hidden files, and click OK.
  3. Proceed to the following path: C:>Users>>AppData>Roaming>Microsoft>Crypto>RSA folder, and delete all files there.
  4. Now you can restart the Cryptographic Services

3. Switch TPM on or off

  1. In your Start Menu, type Run and select it.
  2. Now type tpm.msc in the box and press Enter.

  3. In the Action panel, select Turn TPM Off.
  4. Restart your machine.

4. Clear your TPM keys

  1. From your Start Menu, type Windows Defender and select it.
  2. Now, open the Windows Defender Security Center.
  3. Select Device security, and then click on the Security processor details.
  4. Click on Security processor troubleshooting.

  5. Next, you’re gonna click on Clear TPM.
  6. Restart your machine after you’re done.

5. Disable Hyper-V

  1. From your Start Menu select Control Panel.
  2. Now click on Programs and Features.
  3. Next, you’re going to click on the Turn Windows features on the left side.
  4. Now find the Hyper-V option and unmark it.

  5. Simply click OK to save your changes and restart your machine.

6. Update your network drivers

  1. In the search box on the taskbar, select Device Manager.
  2. Select a category to see names of devices, then right-click on the one you’d like to update.
  3. Select Update Driver.

  4. Now click on Search automatically for updated driver software.
  5. Once it’s done updating you’re all set.

7. Firewall permission

  1. From your Start Menu select Control Panel.
  2. Now select Windows Firewall, and click on Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall.

  3. Next, the Allowed App windows will open.
  4. Click on the Change Settings
  5. Check the boxes next to the apps or programs you want to allow through Windows Firewall, or network connections.
  6. Click OK to save your new settings.
