This is a recent install of SolydXK8 to see how it compares to other distributions; probably one of the best lightweight distributions out there - why? because it has users of old equipment at heart with a non-pae iso but with the option to upgrade to that if your processor has the functionality of pae. Very clean interface based on XFCE Desktop Environment with I am sure what is a unique 'whisker' menu in that you can actually resize it by grabbing the top right-corner with a left click and dragging as much into the desktop as you require. Very fast boot times and applications launch very quickly. I did have some teething problems with KDEnlive after install but that might be down to me forgetting to do an update after installing the application. The music generously provided under Creative Commons LIcence - my favourite Chillout Troupe, Tunguska Electronic Music Society, featuring the first 8 tracks of their album, Chillout Grooves Vo.12 available from here:

In the video I show how to install a Canon Multi-function all-in-one scanner/printer and the multitude of options available to users of SolydXK - in this instance SolydX - this is now a community driven distro. The main SolydXK OS is SolydK based on KDE with plasma desktop - I prefer a lighter, manageable distribution that is not too taxing. So far I am really impressed with it. It doesn't come with a plethora of wallpapers to choose from but it does have a lot of admin tools to hand and a firewall that is not only turned on from the get-go it also has the necessary rules to enable you to connect to your Windows network - but I haven't tried this as I don't like making machines on the home network share for added security. I was also impressed with how the nVidia driver install went - it recognised my card (GT620) and installed the GF108 drivers. I haven't played around with the nvidia settings yet but I feel I will be reverting to nouveau drivers as I prefer Open Source drivers to proprietary ones. Enjoy!
