Many employers require a four-year college degree for perspective employees.

But just as many don’t. However, those employers do seek workers who have the skills and training needed to perform the jobs they have available. That shortage of skilled workers was a challenge way before the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a shortage of all kinds of employees to fill positions.

The nation’s technical schools are offering training and experience for today and tomorrow’s jobs in careers such as architecture and construction technology, computer programming, medical professions, communication technology and many more. These are jobs that pay well.

Smart Talk takes a Road Trip to the York County School of Technology Wednesday to learn more about these careers and how those jobs fit into and will impact the economy. the program is part of WITF’s Careers That Work project.

Among the guests who will appear on the program are students from the York County School of Technology, Scott Rogers, MS Ed., Assistant Administrative Director, York County School of Technology, Kevin Schreiber, President & CEO York County Economic Alliance and John Pulver, Associate Director, PA Assoc. of Career & Technical Administrators.

WITF’s Careers That Work is an ongoing, evolving multimedia initiative highlighting workforce development in south central Pennsylvania. It is supported by Tech Link South Central PA Consortium for Career and Technical Education. Learn more at witf.org/careersthatwork.
