Sheriff’s Office joins Neighbors smartphone app

WHITESTOWN — The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office has joined the Neighbors smartphone application, which allows users to upload pictures and videos to share security concerns in their neighborhoods.

The Neighbors app, created by the home security company Ring, is a free app designed to share real-time crime and safety alerts between neighbors and law enforcement agencies. Users can upload pictures and videos and share them directly with the authorities — including, now, the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s officials said the agency will use the app to inform the community of real-time crime and safety events.

The free app does not require a Ring product to use, authorities said. Anyone with a camera system can upload content to the Neighbors app.

The app is available to download in both the Apple and Google smart phone stores.

The Utica Police Department also has an account with Neighbors.
