Epic continues to roil up consumers.

Shenmue 3 developer Ys Net and Epic have promised to “assess the situation” regarding the game’s one year exclusivity deal with the Epic Games Store, following concerns from series fans, according to PC Gamer.

This past week, Ys Net stated that the long-awaited Shenmue 3 will be a timed exclusive with the Epic Games Store for one year. At the moment, Shenmue 3 is still available to wishlist on Steam, and updates on its Kickstarter page have mentioned a Steam version.

In an update postedJune 14 to the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter page, Ys Net, Deep Silver, and Epic made a joint statement that, while a little vague, implied each company was looking into fan concerns.

“We want to make sure that the Backers are aware that we are listening to their concerns,” the statement reads. “We kindly ask all our fans to have some patience, we are currently at E3 demoing the game and need to get back to our respective offices to assess the situation and together find a way forward to justify the trust you placed in us.”

None of the parties involved or any part of the statement have hinted that they’ll walk back on Epic’s one year exclusivity, but this does show they’re aware of fans’ concerns. Some backers have already started requesting refunds, according to PC Gamer.

It’s not the first time fans of a game franchise have voiced anger over the decision to sell the title on the Epic Games Store. Metro Exodus, among others, experienced similar backlash and confusion over the state of Steam pre-orders.
