Self Defense-What Nonlethal Product Is Best?

TTS

According to the online encyclopedia Wikipedia, "Firearms were invented in the 14th century in China, after the Chinese had invented gunpowder in the 9th century. These inventions were later transmitted to the Middle East, Europe, and Africa." Long before that man was using sticks and stones for self-defense but those could also be lethal products. The picture of a caveman walking along with a big club over his shoulder is legendary in cartoons, but it accurately depicts a way that man used for self-defense back in the Stone Age.

In this article we will take a look at nonlethal products for self-defense that are used in today's society for personal safety and personal security. There are thousands of choices of nonlethal products to choose from. Which one is best for you is a personal choice.

The right to self-defense has been around ever since man invented a way to defend himself. Handguns and other lethal ways were around long before man thought of the way to defend using nonlethal self-defense items.

Crimes, such as assaults, are never going to go away. They are here "for the duration" as they say, so the need for personal safety and personal security is an ongoing need-especially for women who are assaulted so much more often than men- nine times more often to be precise.

Batons

Are less than arm's length weapons that can be offensive but more likely are defensive and can be electrified or non-electrified. They are an effective self-defense item for personal safety and personal security but tend to be a little bulky. Kubotons are in a special category of batons. Again according to Wikipedia, "the Kubotan self-defense keychain is a close-quarter self-defense weapon usually 5.5 inches long and 0.56 inch in diameter Attached with a keyring for convenience and concealment."

Defensive Sprays

These are the most popular of all nonlethal self-defense items and are legal just about everywhere in the US with a few cities and states having restrictions. They are close to 90% effective at disabling an assailant up to as far as 15 feet away. They use oleoresin capsicum as a main ingredient and may also have a UV marking dye and a teargas component. Some of them may be disguised like lipstick containers for example to help give you an edge in a self-defense situation.

Stun Devices

The one that gets the most notoriety is the Taser which shoots out two electrified darts up to 15 feet away. But for most people a stun gun is a handheld device that is powered by batteries or rechargeable technology. It has two or more probes on one end that can disable an assailant for up to 10 minutes. It also is, on average, about 90% effective. Some cities and states do have restrictions on stun devices so check with your local law enforcement office first before you get one.

Personal Alarms

These are small battery-operated devices that create a loud noise in an emergency. That noise can draw attention to your situation and scare away an assailant. There are no laws against these devices anywhere.

Which nonlethal self-defense item you choose for your own personal safety and personal security is completely up to you. There are thousands to choose from but don't let cost be your sole determining factor. After all, it is your life we are talking about defending.
