Security For Home Protection – Ways to Prevent Break Ins

iSpeech

Sometimes no amount of security precautions will deter a thief from attempting entry to your home. Desperation and stubbornness are strong motivators, and the benefits of a successful robbery outweigh the dangers of capture for many hardened burglars. Thus, it is wise to prepare your home to resist break in efforts. To make your home as secure as possible, the following should be part of your home security checklist.

Bars on Windows

First off, bars on the windows. Iron or titanium bars, while unsightly, are the best way to go about keeping a broken window from providing easy entry into your home. Make sure the bars are thick and evenly set. Also, make sure that the window frame is sturdy enough not to splinter and part if the bars are pulled on. Bars will do little good if a strong enough burglar can just rip them out of the window frame. While you may think doing this to ground level windows is good enough, bear in mind that while few repeat offenders are MENSA members, that doesn't mean that they don't know what a ladder is for. If bars are out of the question, get shatter resistant glass instead of the regular variety. It doesn't have to be bullet proof, but it should be tougher than the average.

Stronger Doors

Thicker doors are another good security measure. Thicker doors with metal inserts in the center can usually resist efforts to kick them in. Make sure the hinges are heavier, with seals over the screws, in order to prevent the door from simply being removed from the frame. Make sure the frame is tougher as well. Nine times out of ten, when a door is kicked in, it's because the frame cracked, not because the door itself was damaged. Be sure to do this for your back door - if you have one - as well. Many people forget about the back door, but it can be a glaring hole in your home's defenses if not taken care of.

Deter Casing

Try and keep criminals from being able to case your home effectively. Thick hedges or prickly bushes set around, under and in front of windows can deter thieves from getting a peek in, forcing them to go through either your front or back door. Herding criminals to one or two points will prevent them from getting creative and will enable you to plan your security measures more effectively.

Garage Door Security

Make sure your garage - if you have one - is also secure. Electronic garage door openers are simple technology. It's easy for an gadget-savvy criminal to replicate your signal and get in through your garage. Don't use a simple electronic door opener if possible (this goes for your security system as well), rather, use a better security garage door opener such as a code touch pad. Or, simply use a manual garage door that you can lock with a thick, heavy duty padlock.

Preventing a break-in from occurring can be as simple as ensuring that you have sturdy locks on your doors and windows, or as complex as setting up a complicated electronic security system. Regardless, you should approach it in a serious and professional manner. Home invasion is no laughing matter, and you should make every attempt to make your home as impregnable as possible.
